A few months ago Conn Bertish came to see me about a work related matter. We walked down to a coffee shop a block away from my office, sat down and sipped our flat whites. The conversation unmoored from work and drifted towards cancer.
Conn Bertish is working on Cancer Dojo – a platform where people can grow, learn and share skills and tools as active participants in their bout with cancer – following his experience with brain cancer. Mediclinic spent some time with him to find out more.
If you follow big wave surfing or ocean conservation in South Africa, it’s likely that Conn Bertish’s work has touched you at some point in the last decade.
Conn helped launch the Red Bull Big Wave Africa, and he also competed in four of the inaugural contests along with his brother Chris. Chris went on to win the Mavericks contest a few years later, and Greg, his other brother, is well known as founder of True Blue Surf Travel and for building the Shark Spotters programme.
